The Edinburgh Stereoscopic Atlas of Obstetrics, 4 Volumes

Edinburgh and London: T. C. & E. C. Jack circa 1905. Four slipcases with groups of stereoviews [stereograms] in each. Each stereoscopic photograph is mounted on a thick card stock, approximately 7" x 9". Section I contains cards 1-25, complete. Condition is near fine with minor wear. Slipcase for this section is only half there. Section II contains cards 26-50, lacking only card #31 (external genital organs of multipara at Eighth Month of Pregnancy). Slipcase very good, complete with original labels. Section III normally contains cards 51-75. It is however defective, with cards 51,52, 57, 58, 59,60,62,70, 71,72,73, and 74 present but lacking the stereographic pictures. Cards 61, 71, and 75 are also missing. The remaining 11 cards are complete with proper images, in near fine condition. Slipcase for this section is very good as well with original labels. Section IV contains cards 76-100. It is nearly complete, lacking images on cards 83, 84, 85, 90 (half card) and 93. The other 20 cards are complete and in near fine condition. The slipcase for this section is fair only, lacking several pieces. A scarce set to begin with, this set contains 80 of 100 complete cards, and an additional 15 cards lacking the images. NOTE: pricing reflects the condition of these sets. Near Fine. various. [10186]

A remarkable set of stereoscopic images designed for viewing through a stereoviewer (not provided). At the bottom of each card is mounted the image, and above that is a description of what the viewer is seeing. Failing having an actual dissection in front of one, this is perhaps the next best thing - with a stereoviewer (not provided) the doctor could see not just a flat image, but also depth and texture.
