Spine with 5 raised bands with gold decorations, brown title and author labeland date in gilt at base. Minor rubbing mostly to the joints with the leather scuffed at the head of the front board. All 10 illustrations are present, one with corner crease and several with minor marginal soiling. The map in rear has been linen backed (repairing tear) and has foxing overall and a stain to the back of one corner (no show-through). Textblock has occasional minor spotting on the edges. Last few pages have upper right hand corner dampstain not affecting text. Top edge gilded. Overall a nice copy which presents nicely on the shelf. The author reports on his travels and daily activities while conducting surveys of British Guiana for the British Government. Not technical for the most part, he notes in the preface that his geological reports were published separately. A fascinating glimpse into that part of the world at that time from the perspective of a geologist. Very Good. [Book #13844] |
