Marbled endpapers. Front and rear hinges cracked but still usable. Clean throughout noting some dampstaining to the top of blank endpapers and previous owner pencilled marks on verso of front flyleaf. Good. Boards. [13850]
Title page vignette engraving marked "H.C.S. delin." and "T Tovey. Aq: fort". Second engraving on vi, marked "H.C.P. ???? del" and "T. Tovey Sc" Scarce. OCLC notes 16 copies with a date of 1793, and 3 copies published in 1800 (as of 11/2014). This copy is not dated, but we've attributed it to 1793 since T. Cadell (Thomas Cadell, Sr) retired in that year and his son, T. Cadell, Jr. who continued the business was partnered with William Davies. That firm was "styled Cadell and Davies" until Davies' death in 1819 (DNB). The latest date found in the text is 1785.
