Lancaster, PA and New York, N.Y. American Physical Society 1937. First Edition. We offer here these three papers IN THE ORIGINAL WRAPS, contained in Reviews of Modern Physics, a) Volume 8, No 2, April 1936: "Nuclear Physics A. Stationary States of Nuclei" by H. A. Bethe and R. F. Bacher (pages 82-229), b) Volume 9, No 2, April, 1937: "Nuclear Physics, Theoretical" by H. A. Bethe (pages 69-244, entire issue), and c) Volume 9, No 3, July 1937: "Nuclear Physics C. Nuclear Dynamics, Experimental" by M. Stanley Livingston and H. A. Bethe (pages 245-390, entire issue). All 3 issues have minor soiling and fading to the covers, 1 with previous owner's name and clipped initialled hole punch in front cover and first leaf. Scarce thus, usually found bound. Very Good. "During the 1930s, Hans Bethe made many of his major contributions to nuclear physics. The first was a series of three lengthy papers in the Journal Reviews of Modern Physics in 1936 and 1937 comprising almost 500 pages of a comprehensive review of experimental and theoretical nuclear physics...The three papers...were so comprehensive that together they became known as the Bethe Bible and 50 years later [were] republished as a book by the American Institute of Physics...The significance of his work in theoretical physics was underscored by Professor O. Klein...[who mentioned Bethe's Bible] at the presentation of the Nobel Prize to Hans Bethe on December 11, 1967. (see L'Annunziata, Radioactivity, Elsevier, 2007)
