A. H. Compton was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1927 'for his discovery of the effect named after him' [ The Compton Effect ]. Co-winner was C.T.R. Wilson 'for his method of making the paths of electrically charged particles visible by condensation of vapour'.

The paper offered here, "The Spectrum of Scattered X-Rays", provided 'Direct experimental confirmation that the photon is an elementary particle, the Compton Effect.' and is found in Vol 22, Second Series, July-December 1923, pp 409-413.
