The first Illustrated American edition. For a rather complex publishing history, see Taves & Michaluk 104 (p 151) Shortly after publication of this work, Osgood "sold at auction in New York City plates and remainders of many Verne books ... which were both bought by Albert Mason. Mason apparently sold them to Porter and Coates, who published an edition in December 1876 with a dozen illustrations, and different cover decorations. Scarce in the marketplace. See also Myers 47 (p 55) who notes these were apparently bound from the English sheets with the American title page added.
