Ex-library Boston Society of Natural History/Boston Museum of Science, with their bookplate on front pastedown and embossed stamp on title page. Also includes library regulations pasted on rear pastedown endpaper. Professionally rebacked with original spine remnants laid down and old endpapers retained. Corners tips worn, dampstaining to top of rear board. Spine lettering bright and clean. A sound copy. Very Good. Cloth. [23500]


Derived and enlarged from "Treatise on Astronomy" in Lardners Cabinet Encyclopaedia, published in 1833. A standard text, the first edition was published in London in 1849 and went through twelve editions in 26 years. The last 32 pages is a catalogue for Lea & Blanchard, the first page noting that The American Encyclopaedia has been "brought up to 1847". The frontispiece (Plate I) is a total eclipse of the sun.
