It seems, therefore, useful to classify and to complete the material first published in the years 1918 to 1924." Later, "The primary fact in subjective metapsychics is Clairvoyance, and, in objective metapsychics, Ectoplasm and its modifications. I shall deal with each methodically and in succession as I have observed them ; but in the first place I think it well to set before readers fresh to these studies the elementary principles and essential conditions of experimentation with mediums." (from the Preface). The first 28 pages of the book deals with an introduction to the work, including such topics as lighting and control of Seances, Fradulent Practices, The Conditions for Good Output, etc. It is worth noting based on the subject matter that this is an attempt to treat the topic scientifically, much like a scientist in a behavior psychology laboratory might.
