The author, Robert Bolton, was a 17th century English divine. Descendants of his emigrated to America in the 18th century, settling in Philadelphia and later Savannah GA. Bolton's Treatise, "Instructions for a right comforting afflicted consciense..." appears to have been first published in 1631.
