Cassola was a teacher at the Military School Nunziatella in Naples, and participated in the "Spring Risings" of 1848 along with several other teachers. He was removed from teaching at the institution after the unsuccessful revolts.

The present treatise, loosely translated into English is "Elementary Physics Applied Natural Sciences and Art". According to the introduction, his primary motivation was to provide a text, derived from 20 years of work, which could be referenced by students based on a perceived need, and to make it also accessible to those of common intelligence.

OCLC notes no copies of this book as of this writing, although at least one Italian institution owns a copy.

OCLC notes a second work by Cassola: "Trattato di chimica elementare teorico-practica : applicata alla medecina, alla farmacia, all' agricoltura all' orittognosia, ed alle arti" published in three volumes during 1830-34. Neville [ The Neville Historical Chemical Library ] notes that work as an excellent and comprehensive chemical textbook which has escaped the attention of chemical historians. Apparently Cassola's work here on physics has as well.
