Singular Beauty: Simple Microscopes from the Giordano collection. Catalogue of an exhibition at the MIT Museum September 1st 2006 to June 30th 2007.

Spartan Giordano. [ Southampton, MA ]: The Antiquarian Scientist 2006. First Edition. 64 pages. Photographically illustrated wrappers. 8 x 8 inches. A new copy with just a touch of wear. Bright and clean internally. SIGNED by author Raymond V. Giordano. Near Fine. Wraps. [24496]

An excellent catalogue of the simple microscope collection built by Ray Giordano (collector, bookseller, and instrument enthusiast) over many years. Each item is illustrated with color photographs, most by Spartan Giordano, Ray's son. The descriptions strike a fine balance between readable and technically informative. The catalog includes introductions by Deborah G. Douglas, The MIT Museum's Curator of Science and Technology, and by Raymond V. Giordano.

Noted scientific instrument scholar Anthony J. Turner also contributes an essay on simple microscopes. Mr. Turner told me at the opening of the MIT exhibition that this was the best collection he was aware of in private hands. It has since been purchased by the Confluence Museum in Lyon, France. This catalogue is already a standard reference for the collector and historian. A 9 x 13 inch cloth edition with expanded and more detailed photography was issued by Classical Science Press in 2012.
