Memoir of John Endecott [ Endicott ], First Governor of the Colony of Massachusetts Bay : Being also a Succinct Account of the Rise and Progress of the Colony, from 1628 to 1665.

Salem: Printed at the Observer Office 1847. First Edition. 116 pages. 4to. Publisher's original cloth. This copy has the bookplate of William Goddard Weld, and an inscription on the back of the frontispiece: "Wm G. Weld with the regards of Chas. E. Endicott" (perhaps a relative of the author). Minor foxing throughout, archival tissue strengthening to the gutter where the frontispiece is inserted. Crinkling to the flyleaf where the bookplate is affixed. Very Good. Cloth. [24535]

A fairly scarce work, with only 15 examples in OCLC/Worldcat as of this listing. William Goddard Weld was a major philanthropist, donating significant collections to both the Museum of Fine Art in Boston as well as the Peabody Essex Museum in Essex Massachusetts. Given his interest in travel, history (he collected early Japanese military history) it is not surprising that he sought out an early history of the area.
