Princeton University Yearbook Class of 1905
1905. Hard Cover. Full leather binding, with "PRINCETON 1905 | F. B. S. JOHN" embossed in gold lettering on the front cover. The album is approximately 14 inches by 10 inches oblong, and each page has an image size of approximately 9 1/2 by 7 /12 inches. The first 3 pages consist of identified faculty members and school administration, including Woodrow Wilson, 15 images to a page. These members are identified by typed names. The following 22 pages are apparently images of class members, all with their signatures below the images, approximately 14 per page. Following is one page of unidentified members, approximately 19 in number. Then school activity group photographs (sports, music, law?, etc), 6 pages, 2 images per page. Then 3 pages of photographs of the campus, each a ful page size, followed by an additional 4 pages of campus photographs with 2, 3, 4 and 2 images per page respectively. The binding is sound noting several shallow impressions to the front cover. The images in the album appear to be copies of other photographs (as intended and no doubt produced for the class) - the class individual photos were likely pasted up in a larger form, signed by each student under their photograph, and then the montage photographed and reproduced here (what specific process we are unsure of, perhaps akin to woodburytypes) to create the album. The image quality is quite good, sharp, etc and has none of the usual defects one might be tempted to associate with poor quality reproductions. There is foxing throughout. A neat compilation, likely the only location one might find the signature of most of these graduates, at least in a form likely to be accurate. Near Fine. [Book #13847] |
