Almanach de Gotha. Annuaire généalogique, diplomatique et Statistique 1878
Gotha: Justus Perthes 1878. Hard Cover. "Almanach de Gotha [was] a kind of European peerage, published annually by Perthes at Gotha; of late years extended so as to include statesmen and military people, as well as statistical information." (-The Nuttall Encyclopædia, 1907) It was published from the late 1700 through 1944, when the records necessary for confirming claims were destroyed. One reason popularly put forward for the publication was to prove those who claimed a certain social status - necessary especially in the 19th century due to the inability to confirm a person's claimed status through the mail in a timely manner. We have recently purchased a large grouping of this publication, and will be listing them individually as time permits. This copy is in the original stiff red cloth boards, and is disbound with covers detached and shaken. 1095 pages. With a steel engraving of Guillaume, Prince de Prusse as a frontispiece. Fair.
