Originally published in 3 volumes. Volume 1 contains 5 parts: World summary and conclusions, The United States, Canada, Latin America, and an Appendix. Part 2 (not present here) dealt with Western Europe, The Communist countries, The Middle East and Africa, South and East Asia, and Oceania. Part 3 (also not present here) contained information on Techology and transportation, appendices and index.

"This multi-client sponsored study of the world chlor-alkali situation was started on July 1, 1967, and completed one year later...The interrelation among the four chlor-alkalis - chlorine, causitc soda, soda ash, and hydrochloric acid and the increasing importance of many countries as producers and consumers, required a detailed review of the end uses of each chlor-alkali, not only in the United States but throughout the world. Consequently, field world was undertaken in 41 countries; major contributions to the report were made by 35 staff members of Arthur D. Little Inc." (from the Summary introduction).
