Publisher's envelope dusty with bumped corners, internal publication nice and clean. Last 28 pages comprise 'Synoptic Tables for the Star Cipher', which was also made available by Riverbank as a separate publication. A restricted publication not publically available when issued, it appears in a few institutional collections, but is rarely found on the market. 'Friedman amplified the de Viaris solution of the Bazeries cryptograph to which he gave the generic name of a "multiplex" system, and devised a solution for the Wheatstone cryptography, perhaps based on his work with he Pletts device.'
