A beautifully illustrated miniature catalog for this prolific manufacturer of electrical apparatus. The front wrapper shows a 4 plate Atkinson Toepler Electric Machine for $300 (!). A physician discount of 25% is noted in print on the front wrapper, this brochure is targeted at physicians, hospitals, and/or clinics. The material shown is large, fancy (which lended credibility to those using a relatively unknown "force") and well made. Today any of the items in this catalog would make wonderful eye-candy on the wall. I especially like the cut of the McIntosh Complete Wall Plate with De Watteville Current Combiner, in Wall Case. A mere $155.
Dating is unclear for this piece. The company is listed at 141-143 Wabash Avenue in Chicago. Davis/Dreyfus (Finest Instruments) shows many catalogs from this company from the 1890s through the 1920s, none at this address. They do show the first address as 521-531 Wabash Ave address where the company was established in 1879. The predecessor to the company, McIntosh Electrical Company, was also in Chicago. We did find an advertisement for the company at this address in the Homœopathic Journal of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Pediatrics, Volume 11 (1889). Additional advertisements at that address place the company there at least until 1894.
