[ Trade card ] John Burry, Inventor and Manufacturer of Telegraph Instruments 654 Hudson Street, New York | Telephone, 2749 -- 18th

New York: John Burry before 1906. Trade card, 4 1/8 x 2 5/16 inches. Printed in blue ink, with blue ink stamp "Feb 2 1906" on rear. Random pencilled notations on back of card. Nice vignette of a telegraph device (probably his patented "Printing telegraph") on the left side of the card. Very Good. [26755]

Burry was known for making telegraph instruments and stock tickers. A quick review of the patent files notes he patented mechanisms and enhancements as early as 1893 and as late as 1906. Given the nature of the patents, he was clearly a working engineer. He also invented a stock ticker in 1914 according to at least one source. Based on patent filings, he died sometime in 1906 (and Mary Burry, his executrix, is shown as co-filer).
