JC Wilson's copy w/manuscript annotations

A Digest of the Decisions in the Office of the Second Comptroller of the Treasury, compiled under the direction of the Comptroller ... Third edition revised and enlarged.

Washington DC: Government Printing Office 1869. XI, 342 pages. 8vo. Full leather rebinding with original publication interleaved with blank lined paper. "J.C. Wilson, Chief of Quartermaster's Division" in gilt on front cover. Gilt titles on spine. Leather worn, with some animal chew to extremities of lower board. Good. Boards. [27084]

A standard government publication, this copy is unique in that it has interleaved blank pages of lined paper, some of which have manuscript notes on them (presumably in the hand of J. C. Wilson). While the vast majority of pages are blank, those that are written on are of some length, usually clarifying a point in the decisions opposite, with a reference to where the new information came from. A quick flip through shows at least eleven manuscript notes on the interleaved paper.

We find these notes interesting because most relate to the aftermath of the civil war - perhaps the most interesting relates to a man who bought salt from the rebels, but was judged still loyal in spirit and to be compensated for lost property with certain qualifications. And of course these notes were important enough for Wilson to have added to his working copy of the book.
