This copy is unusual as it has been used as an advertising vehicle. The front board has an embossed giilt advertisement for Geo. W. Chipman & Co, Nos. 93 Court and 5 Hanover St, Boston, showing a man on a wagon hauling boxes, each with a city destination, noting "Chipman's Anti-Moth Sewed Carpet Lining, EN ROUTE FOR" above. This copy also with an inscription on the verso of the front flyleaf: "Hon J. P. Bishop complements of the Season Dec 25, [18]71 G.W. Chipman"
The inscription is to JP Bishop, a Cleveland judge and member of the Ohio bar. GW Chipman was the owner of the carpet concern using this book as an advertising vehicle.
