"The first paper on x-rays [ Ueber eine neue Art von Strahlen ] by Röntgen was the most widely translated of the three communications. Within a few months of its appearance, English (England and the United States), French (France, Belgium, and Switzerland), Dutch, Italian, Polish, and Russian translations were published...The best contemporary English translation of Röntgen's three communications on x-rays was made by George F. Barker [as here offered]..." (Klickstein, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen On a New Kind of Rays, A Bibliographic Study, 1966, pp 70-73).
In addition to first paper, two additional communications by Röntgen are translated, and related articles by Stokes and Thomson on Röntgen ray are included. Barker also includes a biographical sketch of all three authors and a bibliography.
