The author in his preface gives an honest account of his work - chiefly to provide a popular account of these subjects in more detail than newspaper and magazine accounts had done by that point, and in particular X-Rays which Roentgen announced "a few weeks ago". He gives credit where due, including to F. E. Ives for his work on color photography. Reproduces several x-ray images from various accounts. The Preface is dated Feb. 1896.
