Plus 31 engraved hand colored maps, additional engraved frontispiece and one duplicate map. 8vo. 6 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches. Publisher's red leather binding with extensive gilt decorations. This work is known in two editions, 1857 and 1858. It is also known in the red leather publisher's binding (as here) and also in dark brown/black leather gilt. This copy is a unusual in that signature '7' is included twice, presumably a binder's error. It otherwise collates as complete through page 239. Some copies also have an additional three page appendix (not present here, nor in the Princeton digitized copy). Others have a multi-folding plate in the rear (present in the Princeton copy for instance) with clothing styles from the various countries described. We are unaware of any bibliographical references regarding precedence, and presume this is complete, noting the bonus duplicate signature '7'.
