The oldest photographic journal in the world. Normally a monthly journal, due to an "overflow of material" the journal was published fortnightly from Nov 1858 to May 1859 (as here). Gernsheim notes that in this time period the journal had a circulation of approximately 3000 copies per issue. The journal is an interesting read, as it tells progress in many areas of photography. Technical improvements, articles translated from foreign press, in depth reviews of books recently published, some illustrations of the same. This volume has an interesting article about using photography when traveling.

This volume contains the following consecutive issues of the "Journal of the Photographic Society". No 69, August 21, 1858 is first issue. Also contains No. 70 (Sept 21, 1858), No 71 (Oct 21, 1858), No 72 (Nov 6, 1858), No 73 (Nov 22, 1858), No 74 (Dec 11, 1858), No 75 and (Dec 21, 1858). [ Title Change to "The Photographic Journal, Being the Journal of the Photographic Society ]. No 76 (Jan 8, 1859), No 77 (Jan 21, 1859), No 78 (Feb 5, 1859), No 79 (Feb 22, 1859), No 80 (Mar 5, 1859), No 81 (Mar 21, 1859), No 82 (Apr 9, 1859), No 83 (Apr 21, 1859), No 84, (May 7, 1859), and finally No 85 (May 23, 1859). Early issues are increasingly difficult to obtain.
