The Liverpool Photographic Journal conducted by some Members of the Liverpool Photographic Society. Vol 1 - 1854, Vol II - 1855, Vol III - 1856 [ all published ]

Three volumes originally bound in one - now disbound with original boards intact but separated from textblock (which is in pieces) Vol I: iv, 164 pgs + Vol II: iv, 160 pgs + Vol III: iv, 172 pages. Paper is thin, edge tears and notations throughout in pencil and ink (not a lot, but consistent - this was a working copy). Some pages loose and separated from the textblock, but complete. Most issues are 16 pages (issue wrappers if published not present). Included are Vol 1: No 1 (Jan 14, 1854) through No 35, Dec 13, 1856 (inclusive), all issued under this title. Founded a bare six weeks after the first photographic journal (Journal of the Photographic Society of London). The present three volumes were issued as the organ of the Liverpool Photographic Society, after which it was sold to Henry Greenwood in 1856. Gernsheim, Incunabula of British Photographic Literature 1839-1875 #985. A short lived journal under this title (3 vols), which was continued at "The Liverpool & Manchester Photographic Journal" (2 vols), then "The Photographic Journal" (1 vol), and finally The British Journal of Photography. Rare in the trade.
