Human Anatomy : Pocket Guide

851-857 Boylston Street, Boston, MA: E. F. Mahady Co. circa 1920. First Edition. 14 folding charts (comprising 28 leaves) plus title leaf. 3 5/8 x 4 3/4 inches. Tan printed boards with green cloth spine. Printed in Germany in bright color. Previous owner's name (R.S.Poole) inked on title leaf. Charts separated from the cloth spine whose glue has dried out. Mild spotting throughout - the charts although small are still visually appealing. [28058]

Each two leaf folding chart comprises one part of the human body. Beautiful color printing. While OCLC notes no copies of this work by this publisher, it does show New York : Clay-Adams Co. whose 1927 "The Pocket Guide to Human Anatomy" also contains 14 plates. A bookseller listing shows the work with 20 printings by 1929, and OCLC notes a further improved guide in 1930.

E. F. Mahady set up his "new establishment" at 671 Boylston street, Boston (near Copley Square) on November 20, 1911 (Cambridge Tribune, Volume XXXIV, Number 45, 6 January 1912). They were there at least until circa 1920. By circa Feb 24, 1929 he was at 851-857 Boylston Street and in 1932 Harvard notes that he was selling medical supplies including books and pennants near Copley Square in Boston.

We think it likely that Mahady ordered this guide from Clay-Adams (or vice versa) to sell to students and other medical personnel.

Price: $25.00
