Norimbergae [ Nürnberg ]: Operâ Joh. Bapt. Homanni [ John Baptist Homann ] [ 1742 ]. Sheet size 63.6 cm x 53.5 cm. (25 x 21 inches). Laid paper, several minor tape repairs on verso at fold top and bottom. A few unobtrusive worm pinholes (one pair in pink coloring upper edge near fold, the other pair in the double box lines at bottom). A few marginal closed tears. Verso blank, noting a few bits of coloring. Plate lines complete and with wide margins. Beautifully hand-colored copper engraving showing celestial motions. Very Good. [28100]

Included is a handwritten note from astronomy scholar Owen Gingrich who examined this chart in person: "J.B. Homann died in 1724 & completed charts before that time, but [this] set was published in 1742 by his heirs. Doppelmayer lived till (sic) 1750". The set Gingrich refers to is Atlas Novus Coelestis by Doppelmayr (1742).

Beautifully colored, a nice gift for anyone who enjoys early printing, astronomy, and cartography.
