The Makers of Surveying Instruments Since 1700 [Original 2 Volume Set]

Troy, New York: Regal Art Press 1962, 1967. First Edition. Vol 1: xxiv, 182 pages, plus colored frontispiece. Original beige cloth with minor soiling, published in 1962. Vol 2: xxv-xxvi, 183-282 pages, published 1967. Publisher's original red pebbled cloth. 8vo. Each volume signed "Cordially, Charles E. Smart". Lower corners bumped, light overall wear. Spine labeling faded. Very Good. Cloth. [28780]

Reprinted in 1968 as a single volume, we offer here the first editions of each volume, both SIGNED by author Smart. Martino also did a later reprint. We prefer the originals (as here) given that the drawings and reproduced images are sharper than the reprints.

Although there is more modern scholarship for some makers, it is still a useful reference for anyone studying or collecting American made surveying instruments, including documentation about various makers, sources and dates of maker addresses, etc.
