New York: Josiah Macy, Jr, Foundation 1952. Later printing. [1]-8 pages. 8 1/2 x 11 inches. Staple upper left. A xerox copy of a printed paper. Printing quality is not great but still readable. The original printout had hand-written notations ("Cybernetics - Transactions of the 8th Conference 1952, Josiah Macy, Jr., Foundation, 565 Park Ave., N.Y. 21, N.Y."), and hand written page numbers which are reproduced in the xerox. Near Fine. Wraps. [28979]

First published in "Cybernetics: Circular, Causal and Feedback Mechanisms in Biological and Social Systems, Transactions Eighth Conference", March 15-16, 1951, New York, N.Y. Edited by H. von Foerster, M. Mead and H. L. Teuber. We are not aware of any separate offprints of this paper from the Conference. Either there were separates and Shannon gave them all out, or he never received any and made copies for his file to distribute when asked. His Maze-solving machines were fascinating to the average person as well as computer scientists trying to figure out how these challenges might be overcome. Page 2 shows a large figure of the maze layout.

Provenance: From the files of Claude E. Shannon (unmarked). There were multiple examples of this copied paper in Shannon's files.
