Frontispiece is pasted down photograph( of Sabino persumably) with printed decorative border. Frontispiece SIGNED underneath "Ignez Sabino Pinho Maia" in ink. [very rought translation of biography] "Poet, short story writer, novelist, memoirist and biographer Brazilian was born in Salvador, Bahia, and is remembered for her action in the fight for women's rights. Daughter of a homeopathic physician and humanist, who gave her a good education and sent her to perfect herself in England. Had to shorten her stay in Europe because of father's death, and was forced to return to Brazil. Was married to the Portuguese merchant Francisco de Oliveira Maia, and Esteou in the literature with the book of poems released Ave, a promising debut and on abolitionist cause. Gained great acclaim from the public, the great actress Ismene when dos Santos recited in Santa Isabel Theater, in Recife (1887). Once published Pallidas Roses and Impressions (1887) and three books of poetry. Published Distinguished Women of Brazil (1899), a book of biographies of several Brazilian in various professions and life stories. A research work of great historical importance, especially literary, that bought information and illustrations on many Brazilian that could be forgotten forever. In addition to publications in books, also wrote numerous articles in journals, especially those headed by women, and in magazines and newspapers."
