A project funded by NASA and involving 2 professors and 14 students with some serious objectives.

"This project was conceived for the purpose of achieving two diverse objectives. The first of these objectives was technical. It was the design of certain components of a control system for an unmanned lunar rover, a test vehicle to be used in development and test of these components and a soil sampler. The second objective was educational. The desire was to provide professional engineering candidates with as real a design situation as would be possible within an educational institutions....TECHNICAL OBJECTIVE. The exploration of the lunar surface by an unmanned roving vehicle is a logical step in the program of manned lunar exploration .... Therefore, a remotely controlled Lunar Roving Vehicle Simulartor (LVRS) was to be designed and built. An additional technical project was a lunar soil sampler." (page i)
