Cambridge, MA: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) 1929. First Edition. 11 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches. Card cover binding with red cloth spine over green cloth boards (dirty,dampstained). Spine cloth coming detached. Leaves stab-stitched and bound with a shoelace. Printed recto only, mostly mimeographed. The Lowell Institute School exam shows signs of folding. Generally clean internally with a few penciled notes and dampstaining to the large plates section and section on chimneys.

Binding front board title is "Calculations in Machine Design" which does not appear to match the contents. Good. Cloth. [14872]
"George Bartholomew Haven, 1871 1953, S.B. 1894, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, began teaching in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT after graduation. He became an instructor in 1896, assistant professor in 1905, associate professor in 1910, and professor of machine design in 1914. He was professor of advanced machine design and head of textile research from 1929 until his retirement in 1936 as professor emeritus. He was the author of numerous articles and books on textile research and served as a consultant to textile machinery firms." (MIT Libraries Item MC-0459)
The Lowell Technical Institute Examination is apparently a test given at that institution for Building Construction: Examination in Building Construction 1933. The section "Description of Chimneys, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1931" contains engineering notes on various chimneys in the area (The Merrimack Manufacturing Company's Chimney, The Pacific Mills Chimney, etc etc).
