The Makers of Surveying Instruments Since 1700 - Original 2 Volume Set

Troy, New York: Regal Art Press 1967. First Edition. Vol 1: xxiv, 182 pages, plus colored frontispiece. Original beige cloth with minor soiling. Published in 1962. Vol 2: xxv-xxvi, 183-282 pages. Original red pebbled cloth. Published in 1967. The first volume INSCRIBED by author Charles Smart to Louis P Booz of Perth Amboy NJ in 1964 (his ownership sticker affixed with old cello-tape to the front flyleaf). Very Good. Cloth. [17230]

Both issued volumes in the original printing. The first reprint was in 1968 as a single volume. Martino later reprinted it as a single volume. Although both reprints are decent, but we prefer the original printings because the images (line drawings, reproductions, and photographs) which help document the instruments aren't quite as clean as the original.

Although there is more modern scholarship for some makers, it is still a useful reference for anyone studying or collecting American made surveying instruments, including documentation about various makers, sources and dates of maker addresses, etc.
