Self wrappers with the front "cover" being a central white oval with black printed title surrounded by a brown background and holly wreath design in green and red. Covers rubbed but still readable, wear to the corners and spine beginning to separate. A few spots and minor pencil marks, on the whole bright with the usual illustration offsetting internally, and worn externally. Title and publisher information from front cover. Good. Wraps. [22866]
Rear cover is a printed advertisement for Hurd and Houghton, "Illuminated Toy Books", noting the firm's location as 401 Broadway. Includes list and prices for the Indestructible Pleasure Books, Pleasure Books, Nursery Rhymes, Illuminated A B C Series, and Little Lessons for Little Folks, all with a price and list of titles. Front cover design is signed in the illustration as C. Edmonds, SB(?). Estimated date of publication is based on copy in the American Antiquarian Society, who notes that the publisher was at the noted address from 1864-1865. OCLC/Worldcat, which notes three copies as of this writing, incorrectly noting a date of 1850 and page count of 14.
