First published in 1879, this edition contains two additional images (numbered 30 and 31) which an editorial note indicates were purchased from The Youth's Companion in January 1879. This edition includes a total of 9 illustrations, 1 folding. The Boston Society of Natural History, who produced this booklet, eventually became the world renowned Museum of Science, Boston.
