The proceedings of an International Symposium organized by the Rank Prize Funds and held at the Royal Society. An interesting symposium which not only contains a history of the field to that time, but takes a wide survey of different areas and reviews (by invited papers) the current state and slate of issues at the time. Papers include off-line Electronic Picture Processing, Hard-copy Picture storage, X-ray thermal, ultrasonic, microwave, and nuclear imaging. One article we found intersting was Problems in matching information to the Brain: comptuer generated Speech Patterns for the deaf which surveyed some of the tools available at the time.
