International Computer Chess Association (ICCA) Newsletter, Vol 6., No. 2, April 1983
Evanston, IL: International Computer Chess Association (Northwestern University) 1983. 12 pages, self wrappers. 11 x 8 1/2 inches. Printed in red and black. Light overall wear. A nice copy. Near Fine. Pamphlet. [29723]
First issued in May of 1978, this was the last issue of this scarce newsletter on computer chess. It was continued as the ICCA Journal which ran through 1999. According to OCLC, less than a dozen institutions have any examples of this newsletter in their collections.
Claude Shannon did some of the first work on computers playing chess in 1950. This issue announces the fourth World Computer Chess Championship sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) where they expect "near Master level" play from some of the best programs in the world. The notice suggests that Ken Thompson and Joe Condon of Bell Labs will defend their title, with strong competition from NUCHESS, CRAY BLITZ, and CHAOS.
